Florida Window and Door and its management team, along with the National Glass Association, have announced their support of President Obama’s Better Building Initiative. This initiative and its proposed incentives are designed to spur a 20 percent improvement in commercial building energy efficiency by 2020.
The initiative calls for a significant reform of current tax incentives for commercial building retrofits and will help spur private sector into making cost effective, energy efficient upgrades that will reduce the nations energy bills by up to $40 billion a year. The initiative supports a conversion in the energy efficiency tax deduction to a tax credit and would effectively double or triple the bottom-line impact.
“We strongly support this initiative as a way to encourage and entice existing commercial property owners to retrofit their properties with energy efficient windows as a way to improve not only the energy efficiency of the property but its value and the environment as well. We feel this initiative will be similar to the residential tax credit that encouraged homeowners to retrofit their homes with energy efficient windows to save energy and the environment. The logical next step would be for the government to encourage commercial property owners to do the same.” said Scott Berman President of Florida Window and Door.
