Citizens Property Insurance has proposed raising property insurance rates by an average of 25 percent for residential polices and at least 12 percent for policies that cover only windstorm damage.
This latest increase request was for rates covering 2012 and was sent to state regulators this week for approval.
This latest request by Citizens comes less then thirty days after Allstate had requested regulators to approve their request for a property insurance rate increase between 31.2 percent and 35.7 percent statewide. At the same time, requesting an even higher rate for homeowners in South Florida.
The insurance regulation office plans to hold hearings on the proposed rate increase but has not scheduled a date for the hearings to take place.
