Effective June 30, 2015 the Florida Building Code will undergo a major modification in regard to energy conservation.
Effective on that date, all window and door products whether it be new construction or replacement will be required to meet State of Florida Energy Codes based on specifications provided in Zone 1 or Zone 2. The net effect will be a window with insulated glass and a high performance coating to ensure maximum thermal efficiencies and increased shading coefficient on all fenestration products.
“The effect this will have on our industry cannot be minimized or ignored. As a company we have been preparing for this code change for several years. My hope is that our industry will embrace the code, educate the consumer and not mislead them as to their ability to get around the new energy code or its lack of significance to obtaining a building permit.” Says Scott Berman President of Florida Window and Door.
The code is in response to the changing energy efficiency requirements that have been utilized nationally with only the State of Florida not requiring standards to be met or labels to be placed on fenestration products confirming the performance requirements.
